This Dyspraxia Awareness Week, from 1st to 7th October 2025, Edx Education is shining a spotlight on the power of purposeful play for young children with dyspraxia. At Edx Education, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, explore, and grow through joyful, meaningful play experiences.
Dyspraxia, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), is a neurological condition that affects movement, coordination, and motor planning. For children aged 0 - 6, it can present challenges with everyday activities from crawling and climbing to holding a crayon or tying shoelaces. But there’s good news: play can be one of the most effective, accessible, and enjoyable ways to support these children’s development.
What Makes Play So Powerful?
Play isn’t just fun it’s fundamental. For children with dyspraxia, play provides an opportunity to build motor skills, improve coordination, develop problem-solving abilities, and grow in confidence. With the right toys and encouragement, play becomes a safe space where children can practise, persevere, and progress.
That’s where Edx Education comes in. We design educational toys and resources specifically to support early learning through play. From open-ended sensory activities to fine and gross motor games, our products are created to empower every child especially those who need a little extra support.
Sensory Play with Sand & Water
Sand and water play is a firm favourite with children and a fantastic option for those with dyspraxia. Digging, pouring, scooping, and moulding all help to improve hand-eye coordination, grip strength, and tactile awareness. More importantly, this kind of play is calming and engaging, helping children focus while gently developing their motor planning and spatial skills.
Our sand and water trays, tools, and accessories are open ended and endlessly versatile offering hours of fun while laying down the foundations for confident movement and fine motor control.
Jumping into Gross Motor Fun with the Joey Jump
Physical coordination can be especially tricky for children with dyspraxia, but that doesn’t mean active play should be avoided. Quite the opposite! Movement games like the Joey Jump offer a brilliant way to build gross motor skills in a fun, supportive way.
This toy invites children to stomp one end of a board to launch beanbags into the air encouraging jumping, balancing, aiming, and core strength. It’s a playful and rewarding way to improve coordination and body awareness while sparking joy and giggles.
Building Fine Motor Skills with Maths Cubes
Fine motor development is another area where children with dyspraxia often need extra support. Our Maths Cubes are perfect for developing grip strength, finger dexterity, and bilateral coordination. Children can connect, stack, and build with the cubes, all while engaging in early maths concepts like counting, sorting, and patterning.
The cubes are tactile, colourful, and designed to grow with your child offering endless learning opportunities from preschool through to early primary years.
